Important: Before you go through these steps, make sure you have signed up to the GitHub Student Pack and applied for your Heroku student credits to keep your projects active! If you haven't done this yet, search your email inbox for an email with the subject "Action needed! Apply for your Heroku student credits." for these steps.
As the Heroku Student Pack offering no longer includes free access to the Postgres add-on, it is important that you move any Postgres databases you wish to keep to another host. We have chosen ElephantSQL as the provider, as this service is free.
These steps apply to any Postgres-based projects that you need to keep running on Heroku, including projects that have already been submitted. These changes will not affect assessments as they are updating an environment variable and there are no changes to your code.
Important! You will need to repeat these steps for each of your PostgreSQL databases.
This process assumes you have already signed up to ElephantSQL.com. If this is not the case, follow these steps.
